FIVE REASONS NOT TO MOVE TO NASHUA, NH
So as a lifelong Nashua resident, I am here to tell you a few reasons you should not move here. It is not all bad but it does have some downsides.
Reason#1 Cost of living is high!
Winters are brutal here and utilities are almost 30% higher than the national average. In January it can sometimes go below zero for a few days in a row and in July it can reach high 90’s. So it can be extremely hot and extremely cold which causes the costs of gas and electricity to skyrocket.
Reason #2, housing is expensive!
Nashua is a border town, so we have a lot of people who buy homes here and commute to Boston, Massachusetts or somewhere else in Mass where the wages are much higher. Nashua has become a Boston suburb. If you go further north in NH you will see housing does get a little more affordable but NH homes are above average from most of the country.
Reason #3, Property taxes are high.
New Hampshire is in the top 3 for the country. NH does not have sales tax or income tax, so they have to get it from somewhere and they get you on the property taxes. Property taxes do vary by each town so that is something to look into before buying a home also.
Reason #4, Nashua is very congested.
There is a lot of traffic when going into town and the school systems are a bit overcrowded. There are a few surrounding towns that are a bit smaller just outside of Nashua.
Reason #5, not a lot to do if you are not into the outdoors
There is hiking, fishing, hunting, but all outdoors. If you are like me and do not like the outdoors you may find it hard to find things to do here. The lakes region and ski areas are beautiful, as well as the seacoast and Nashua is about an hour away from all of these places but all is with nature.
